The Topic Allyx Has Been Chatting About For Weeks

Hello, fellow readers. Nelly here. Yes, I haven’t updated in what seems like ages. Nevertheless, I’m back and I’m here to post about Allyx’s new obsession; Gaksital a.k.a Bridal Mask. The recent posts have been about that and yes, you might find it strange that suddenly, out the blue, she started posting about it. It has apparently reached its end and I heard it was tragic. Yet I’m here to try to elucidate the whole thing in short lines if possible and if I can. I mean, I’m not a fan of Korean stuff. Not anything. Not K-Pop or K-Dramas or anything K-ish. And even Allyx in not much of a fan of Korean stuff except the K-Dramas. And since its pilot, Allyx has been talking about it constantly. Non-stop chatting about it to me, updating me on each episode. And she also keeps apologizing to me because she thinks she’s annoying me with the complaints, the praises and just Gaksital (Bridal Mask in Korean – no duh!). She’s not actually.

Occasionally she can get over the top but so what? She’s my best friend. Best friends are supposed to go through everything together and stuff. So, yea. And Allyx also thinks I’m not interested in it at all. She’s skeptical about it. But honestly, it’s not bad. I actually find myself getting intrigue by it AND like I mentioned earlier, I don’t like anything K-ish (not trying to offend anyone out there!). So, here’s what Bridal Mask is about (SURPRISE, ALLYX!!)

The first thought that came to my mind when Allyx said “Bridal Mask” was a show about romance and comedy and well, family oriented stuff. But in fact, it’s quite the contrary. It ain’t about “I do” or “I love you” or “Be mine forever” even though there is a TINGE of romance in it but not a single streak of comedy. It’s about how good can’t always triumph over evil. The good has to get shot a few times before picking itself up and going against evil one last time. Good might win in the final show down but the very valor or heroes might play roles of martyrs. It’s sad actually.

So, Gaksital is about how the Japanese took over Korea and how the Koreans are trying their best to free themselves. Some Koreans willingly go to the dark side and some were forced. There also characters who switch sides. They very main hero, Kang To played by Joo Won (go look him up if you’re interested) switched from the bad to the good while unfortunately, his best friend was the opposite. Revenge took him and also took his life. For me, his life getting clamp in the cold hands of death was the most, well, saddest thing in Gaksital even though he turned into a monster he swore he’ll never be. And of course, there was a childhood friend who was fed lies and unfortunately, was shot by someone she thought could trust when she protecting her groom-to-be, Kang To on her wedding day. She couldn’t be saved. She was shot before and you can’t cheat death twice. So, the whole series was just twist after twist and about how people change for the ones they love, the ones they want to avenge, the ones that hurt them and the ones driven by hatred and emotion and the will to be free. You have the good guy to the bad, the bad to the good, the very good to death and the very bad to IMMINENT death. There were Koreans (the Comrade girl) who joined the rebel. In other words, who attempted to save their nation and were killed. So, this is what I concluded from Gaksital. To those out there who like K-Dramas, try for Bridal Mask and for those who aren’t but may be interested, go ahead. May the dead characters rest in peace and may the broken hearted Fansitals mend and stich up their hearts.

Hope I didn’t bore you ~Nelly
